Excuse Caddie
Last updated: May 2026

Overview

Excuse Caddie is designed to collect as little data as possible. We do not collect names, emails, accounts, or any personally identifiable information. What we do send is described below.

1. Anonymous device identifier

The app generates a random UUID the first time you open it and stores it locally on your device. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or Google account.

The UUID is sent with each upvote or downvote you cast on an excuse, so that one device counts as one vote per excuse. We do not use it for tracking across sessions or for advertising.

2. Anonymous usage counters

When you tap "Mulligan" to generate an excuse, the app sends a request to our server to increment a global counter. This request contains no personal data and no device identifier; it is a simple counter bump used to show the "alibis on the card" number in the app.

3. Notifications (optional, off by default)

If you turn on notifications in the app footer, the app schedules two local reminders per week (Thursday evening and Sunday morning) with a random excuse from the bundled list. These notifications are scheduled and fired entirely on your device by the operating system. No push tokens are registered with any server, and no notification data leaves your device.

You can turn notifications off at any time from the same toggle, or from your device system settings.

4. Locally stored preferences

The app stores a small number of preferences on your device only:

This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.

5. No third-party tracking or ads

The app does not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, social tracking pixels, or cross-app identifiers. The only network requests the app makes go to our own backend at excusecaddie.xyz and only for the purposes listed above.

6. Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any data from children. No personal information from users of any age is stored or processed.

7. Legal basis (GDPR)

The anonymous UUID and vote counter are processed on the basis of legitimate interest in providing the voting feature and showing accurate counters. No identifiable personal data is processed. If you are in the EU and want your UUID and votes deleted, see the contact section below.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, this page is updated and the "Last updated" date at the top is bumped.
